Please find below one of our English teachers. Her name is Denise Lascelle:

ESL Teacher at GEOS Ottawa

Denise is one of our most experienced and popular teachers. She was born and grew up in Toronto, then moved to Ottawa around 11 years ago. She started working with GEOS Ottawa in 2007. In that time, she has taught every kind of English class we offer including all 6 levels of ESL, TOEFL iBT and the Work and Study Seminars.

Denise asked her class to write some comments about her to share with you –
“Denise is kind and friendly. She is a good teacher. She is warm and I like her.”
“Denise is serious and funny at the same time. She does her best for us to learn.”
“The class is very funny with teacher Denise, but sometimes she has terrible jokes. She is good because she has good pronunciation and articulation.”
“She is a nice teacher because she explains grammar easily.”
“She likes chocolate”.

Hey, who doesn’t? Thanks Denise.

Student Testimonial for GEOS Ottawa

I believe places and cities are made by people, and that’s why I love GEOS, and in general Canada, because I always found lovely people who made me feel like if I was at my house. I’m here since last September; it means 6 months ago, and I’m very glad I found this school in Ottawa. At this moment, I have really good memories for all the time I spent here.
On the one hand, GEOS has really good teachers. All of them are very friendly with students, and they really know how to teach. On the other hand, GEOS has students from a lot of different countries. I found only around 3 or 4 Spanish / Latino – American people, so that was great, because I could improve my English faster. Instead of Spanish people, I made a real group of friends from Saudi Arabia, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Venezuela, Russia, Switzerland...it was amazing!
I’m going to come back here soon, because I wish finish my English levels, but in the meantime I recommend you this school, maybe we can find each other here in the future.
Elena Gondar, Intensive English (24 weeks)

Student Review for ESL at GEOS Ottawa
GEOS is a wonderful school! I met so many good people who helped me in my English improving: teachers and everybody else who work in this amazing school. I made so many friends from different countries. GEOS is a huge international family that makes every student happier. All in all, I love myself in GEOS! :)

Work and Study Program Success
Congratulations to Dmytro Liashenko, who completed his study period this month and got a job, with an electrical engineering company. Dima studied electrical engineering at home in Ukraine, so it’s great he was able to find a job in his field.

What's happening in April?

Niall will be travelling to Istanbul, Turkey from March 31st to April 4th to attend the Alphe Istanbul fair. He’ll be representing all 11 GEOS North American schools, so he is hoping to meet many of our regional partners and at the fair, and also to visit some of you in your offices.

Currently we have 25 Nationalities represented in the school among our 154 students.

Intensive English – 24 academic hours –
A program based on the Communicative Method of language teaching that is second to none! GEOS is the only private school in Ottawa to operate 6 levels of ESL year-round.
Our morning course, called Integrated Skills (IS) allows students to develop their ability in all four skills of English (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Our afternoon program is called Active Listening (AL) and focuses on improving the practical communication skills of listening and speaking.

Super Intensive – 31 academic hours –
Many of our students choose to enhance their studies with an extra elective class (7 hours per week). Our current elective classes are:

Levels 1&2 – Pronunciation
Levels 3&4 – Grammar Works or IELTS Preparation (Intermediate)
Levels 5&6 - IELTS Preparation (Advanced)

Super Intensive Plus – 36 academic hours
A recent addition to our course options, our Writing classes are available for all levels and are designed for students who need extra practice with spelling, written grammar and composition.

Full-time TOEFL iBT Preparation Program (Advanced) – 24 academic hours
GEOS Ottawa is the perfect choice for the more serious student who is thinking about applying for university in Canada. Our very popular TOEFL iBT program prepares students in all aspects of the test to significantly increase their chances of passing.

Private Instruction / Closed groups
In addition to our regular scheduled group classes we also offer private and small group lessons in English and French with flexible schedules and class content to suit the needs of the student.

Whatever the weather Ottawa is great for events, with more than 26 museums, art galleries, theatres, and concert halls. Some of our students went to see Lady Gaga in one of her wild concerts. Cities all across North America hold parades to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. It’s a celebration of Irish culture and is always a great party. Other activities included indoor rock climbing, a fun night out at a Comedy Club, a soccer game, a tour of the new Canadian Museum of Nature (http://nature.ca/en/home) and a trip to our ever-popular local pool hall.

Welcome to the Capital of Canada!

Although Ottawa is not as famous as many other capital cities, it is surely among the most beautiful. Its European charm and convenient size make it a wonderful place to live and study.

Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital more than 150 years ago because of its central location, and that makes it easy to travel to other cities. We’re only 2 hours from Montreal and 5 from Toronto. Our students also often visit Quebec City, Niagara Falls, Boston and New York.

Ottawa has Canadian Culture at its best. There are more than 26 museums, the beautiful Parliament buildings, art galleries, theatres, and concert halls. And there’s nowhere better to enjoy the Canada Day party on July 1st. http://www.ottawatourism.ca

It’s a city of festivals, and the people of Ottawa love welcoming visitors to join the party. Every month brings exciting new festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and sporting events. We have Winterlude, Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, the Tulip festival and so much more. http://www.ottawafestivals.ca

Canada is famous for its natural treasures, and Ottawa has everything you could ask for - beaches, parks, woodlands, hills, rivers, and lakes. There is a great variety of outdoor activities to choose from. So, what are you waiting for? From canoeing and white-water rafting to skating and skiing, we’ve got it all.

Springtime in Ottawa
March is the month when we “Spring Forward” meaning we turn our clocks forward 1 hour. It really makes a difference to the amount of day light we can enjoy, especially in the evening.
March and April can be unpredictable months for weather. It’s still possible to have more snow but the weather is getting warmer (average temperatures are -5C to +10C) and people are saying goodbye to winter.
